GHRELIN IS PRODUCED PRIMARILY BY THE EPITHELIAL CELLS IN THE FUNDUS OF THE STOMACH. THE PITUITARY, HYPOTHALAMUS,
KIDNEY AND PLACENTA ALSO PRODUCED SMALL AMOUNTS. GHRELIN HAS TWO MAJOR EFFECTS AND A NUMBER OF LESSER EFFECTS:
GHRELIN IS A POTENT STIMULATOR OF GROWTH HORMONE SECRETION. iT WORKS WITH BOTH GROWTH HORMONE RELEASING HORMONE
AND SOMATOSTATIN TO CONTROL WHEN AND HOW MUCH GROWTH HORMONE WILL BE SECRETED.
GRHELIN PLAYS A ROLE IN COMMUNCATING THE BODY"S ENERGY BALANCE TO THE HYPOTHALAMUS. IT ALSO MAY SUPPRESS FAT UTILIZATION
IN THE ADIPOSE TISSUES.
GHRELIN ALSO STIMULATES GASTRIC EMPTYING.
GHRELIN ALSO STIMLATES CARDIOVASCULAR FUNCTION. INVESTIGATORS HAVE NOT CONCLUDED WHETHER THIS IS A DIRECT
